DIANA URBAN

Piano/Bass

My very first experience with music outside of church was at family gatherings over the holidays.  Mainly Christmas.  Daddy would play his guitar and me, and my sister would sing songs and entertain our family and friends.  Sometimes I would have a tambourine.  My sister, DeLinda, was a much better singer than I was.  She sang first and I sang second.

Around the age of five years old, I was abducted. My mother, afraid of letting me out of her sight, kept me home from school for the remainder of the year.  At that time, mom was taking piano lessons, and she would take me with her.  While at home I would practice with my mom and soon I started to memorize what she was learning. I played the piano every day for hours.

At the age of ten years old, I had learned all the church songs and could easily play the piano for the whole service.  By the age of twelve, I was playing at weddings and funerals all over Texas.  Dad was a superintendent and oversaw the DFW district and it was very busy.  The funerals were really sad for me, because I didn’t know the people and some of the funeral homes were old and scary for a twelve-year-old. By the time I was eighteen, I had learned the bass guitar, and drums as well.  My biggest gift from God, was my musical ear.  Even though I couldn’t play a lot of the instruments or music out there, I always knew when someone played off key or sang off key.

I am proud to be called a “Preachers Daughter”.  My siblings and I were blessed to be brought up in a Christian home where both our parents were musicians and encouraged us to be the best we could be.  I thank God for blessing me with the gift of song and music.  Music has changed my life.

Still In the Light was createdtobring hope in tough times, happymemories, andspreadGod’s love into your homesand lives.
